It is in a beautiful setting of trees on a hill. I would guess that the building are about twenty years old, but we have two bedrooms (only one with a bed), two baths, kitchen, dinning room and a large front room. It is quite different that our one room apartment in Samoa. It is a gated complex and we have to arm and disarm an security system when we leave or come back to the apartment.
There are eight apartments in each building, four up and for down.
Ours is the bottom corner, looking and the middle of the this picture.
We have a nice pool (but we didn't bring any swim suits), exercise room (only open from 9:00 to 5:00), and a miniature practice soccer field.
Gramma is all ready settling down in the new kitchen. She has a dozen beautiful aprons at home. She forgot to pack any, so she bought this beautiful model at Walmart.
There is also a lake with fish stocked in it, but I don't think we get use that.We have spent three days shopping, finding our way around, and setting up our living quarters. They have not had a Senior couple here for a long time if ever and the Bishop said that he has been praying that his Ward would be able to have one. So we are here, to help him, his Ward, and the Elders and Sisters working here.
As Gramma wrote in her email we have spent most of our time (and quite a bit of money), getting set up in our living quarters. At least 6 trips to Walmart, Sams Club, Lowes, the Dollar Store, and even the Goodwill. We only had a short list left and Gramma said it could be finished at Costco. So Saturday we headed to the closest Costco. We have one just a few miles away but it is a business warehouse and they have few of the items in a regular Costco. We traveled up the interstate right through the middle of downtown Atlanta about 40 miles north of here to Costco. The Atlanta Temple was on the opposite side of the freeway from Costco so we stopped to see the Temple.
What a beautiful place. It was closed and will be for a couple of weeks for semi-annual maintenance.
The flowers were very pretty.
Now we know how to get there we are going to try to get there for a session as soon as we have time.
This is a picture of the Chapel for the Jonesboro Ward. There is a Spanish Branch that attend there too. We met with those missionaries and Gramma attended the Spanish Sacrament meeting while me and Elder Augr went on a 45 Minute ride to pick up an investigator. His name was Anthony Cleveland and was a nice person the Elders were teaching.
Elder Augr is in the middle (its a threesome right now) the other two are Elder Stock and Malone. We didn't get a picture of the Sisters. They left before we got back from taking Anthony home.
We were given a Ward list with 33 pages front and back. there are about 650 members that they are not sure if they are in the ward or not. We have been asked by the Bishop to help find many of these people and see if they are even here anymore. Gramma has found some with last names of her relatives from the south (Eubank and others) we will probably start there. The Bishops name is Bourdeau and he is from Haiti. They have not had an Senior couple here for many years and the Bishop said he has been praying to the Lord to send his Ward a couple. So it isn't hard to see why we are here. It is because of this faithful Bishop. We miss you all, call if you want to visit. We have a visit with President Clayton and his wife in Peachtree City and a District Council meeting with the missionaries this coming week. Between that and trying to locate some of our list we should have plenty to do. Conference weekend, coming up and we are excited to be taught by the leaders of the Church. The Gospels true, and we know we are on the Lord's errand. May God will bless you as you go forward this coming week. We love you all. Elder and Sister Hammond.
